- What is the big drawcard for the Village on Oval?
The Village on Oval features a lively atmosphere with 60 vendor market stalls, Joburg’s finest food trucks, a beer tent, and a gin bar. There is also an outdoor stage showcasing some of South Africa’s best-loved music acts throughout the weekend. You can enjoy picnic tables under umbrellas and fairy lights, with secure fencing to ensure children have the freedom to explore safely.
The beer tent and gin bar are fenced with dedicated security guards to ensure that no one under the age of 18 has access.
Additionally, there will be four TV screens in the beer tent screening the Olympics throughout the weekend (with limited sound due to the music on offer). - Can we bring camping chairs and picnic blankets to the Village on Oval?
Yes, you absolutely can! There will also be picnic tables available, as well as bean bags for hire.Bean bags are available for hire per day for R80 and can be collected at the West Rd North entrance. Click here to book. - Are there any restrictions around glass and cash?
Yes, for safety and JOC certification compliance, glass will not be permitted at the festival—bags will be checked upon entry. Additionally, the event is a cash-free zone, so please plan accordingly. Payment methods include credit cards, mobile payments, and certain vendors will have Snapscan. - If I have a theatre ticket, do I need a separate ticket to access the Village on Oval?
Yes, you do need a separate ticket to access the Village on Oval. You can book for FridayFest, SaturdayFest, or SundayFest to enjoy the Village on Oval. - Will there be food trucks and coffee vans by the theatre venues, or only at the Village on Oval?
There will be food trucks and coffee vans available outside the theatre venues as well as at the Village on Oval. We offer a wide variety of food to suit every taste and dietary requirement. - Where do we park?
- Summit Field: Recommended for shows in the Auditorium, Len Miller, and Film Studio.
- West Rd North: Recommended for shows in the Orchestra Room and access to the Village on Oval.
- You may park at either venue. Outspan Field will also be available if needed. Parking is free and secure if parked inside Summit, West Rd North, or Outspan.
- Can you buy tickets at the event, or only online?
There will be two ticket offices on-site – Summit Reception and West Rd Reception- where you can purchase tickets at the gate or during the event. - Do we need to purchase a ticket to enter RedFest?
Access is permitted if you have any RedFest ticket, whether it’s to see a show, attend a workshop, or visit the Village on Oval.If you are only attending a free event (e.g., children’s author readings or the art exhibition), you will need to purchase a R20 art exhibition ticket (the cheapest ticket available) for access to any free event on campus. This ticket is required to access the campus for security reasons.
- Do children need to pay to enter the Village on Oval or theatre shows?
Children under the age of two do not require a ticket for entry. - What times are the various live music acts performing over the weekend at the Village on Oval?

Unfortunately, no. The Redhill Campus is a dog-free zone. - Who do we contact with any ticketing challenges?
